Helping your wife with morning sickness.

You hear about all these mothers to be with morning sickness that last one day and some the entire nine months. Morning sickness can be very stressful and exhausting. It can also wear down on the husband and wife causing tempers and bad moods.

In my opinion morning sickness should be called all day sickness, since your not sick just in the mornings. It's true because she was sick the entire day every day!
My experience with my wife was around the first 24 weeks. She was sick for about 4 months and I mean she had an upset stomach on average of about 4 times a day. I really felt sorry for her. I tried to get information from other mothers and friends to help her out. We heard and tried everything from ginger tea, sea bands, medicines, eat in the morning, crackers, small portions throughout the day and etc...
None of these worked. She just continued on being sick, in fact sometimes she would even be sicker after using one of these "remedies".

So I realized that if she was going to be sick, she was not going to be sick and uncomfortable. So here's what I did.
Now before I go any further, I need to make something clear. What I did was to help her out and yes it did take work on my part and time from my schedule. That's what marriage is about, you make sacrifices and help each other carry their load. So I did a little rearranging around the house.
I would do dishes after dinner, I would make dinner sometimes, I cleaned the bathroom, I did laundry and folded. I would try to make her comfortable as possible.
Including giving her blankets, massages and just talking with her about how she felt. She really appreciated those things, especially when I would clean the whole house for her and then we would just sit and talk. She would then talk to her mother on the phone and tell her all of her problems
and how I helped her. Thats an awesome feeling.

I know as a husband that coping with the morning sickness can be stressful. Worried about her all the time, also having to adjust your schedule because she's not feeling well that eve. As in a cancellation of dinner plans with friends or family.
It starts to drain us also, just in a different way. The key thing here is to not place any blame on her. For example, "We never can go out because your always sick". Whoa Don't say that! That will start a fire that you can't put out. If you are having a tough time of it, just tell her in a different way. I told my wife that it is stressful on us both, but I know that she has a lot on her shoulders now. Explain to her that you're stressed, but also excited. What you want to do is just simply talk to her about your feelings.
Really open up to her and just pour it out. As a husband I know how my wife loves it when I tell her my feelings. Even if what I tell her isn't exactly what she wanted to hear. The communication thing is key here. Also while your pouring your heart to her, ask her how she is feeling. Tell her you know she must be stressed out. But she is doing a wonderful job carrying your baby.
Build her up also and give her encouragement. There is nothing like encouragement to a wife that comes from her husband.
Don't forget the reason why you are in this situation. These are times that can be real nerve wracking, but also when you look back on them they will be some of the most rewarding also. You're ready to bring a new life into the world.

Baby Skin Care

Baby Skin Care
By Idan Lavi

New babies have tender skin, and they need special care when you clean them. Though you already know not to use adult soap on their soft skin, you may not be sure what to use for baby skin care when you first get your baby home. As a rule, you don’t want anything that will irritate skin, and when baby has the softest and newest skin in the world, you have to be choosy about what you buy. Though it may seem daunting, it’s easy to figure out exactly what you need.

There are many items in the stores that are labeled as baby skin care products. For the most part, they are all safe to use, but you should read though the list of ingredients. If you want to stay on the safe side, you can go with a brand that you already know and love. Johnson’s has a great line of baby skin care items, and you will always have good results when using their products. If you want to go ‘all natural’, they have many items that fit that bill as well.

I used all sorts of products for baby skin care when my daughter was young, and though we never had a problem with any of them, I did have a problem with her having dry skin as she got older. This meant that I had to add something to our list of baby skin care products to help her with this problem. Luckily, baby oil or baby lotion seemed to take care of the problem for her. If your baby has dry skin and the lotion isn’t helping, you should visit your doctor to see what is going on. If your baby has eczema, you may need something special.

The most important thing about baby skin care is to be careful with what you use, and to make sure nothing is amiss. You can be gentle and use all of the right products, but that doesn’t mean things will always be easy. You have to be careful about what types of detergent you use for their clothing as well. You may even have to alter what you use on your own clothes if they seem to have irritated skin. There are detergents for baby skin care made just for sensitive skin, and you may have to use it until they get older and can tolerate your regular detergent.

What Toys Will Help My Child Develop Properly

What Toys Will Help My Child Develop Properly
By Joe Collinsworth Platinum Quality Author

Developing your children so they grow up like the little angels you want them to be starts from day one. It is very important to begin utilizing various tools, resources, and toys that will ensure they are growing and learning appropriately.

This article will take you through the very critical first year of your child’s development.

You may not have considered using playtime to help your new baby grow and develop, but that is exactly what healthy infants need! So, let’s have some fun!

Not only is visual, audial and sensory stimulation important for your child’s development, but if you offer your child this kind of stimulation from an early age, your child will become more involved in the world around him and his natural curiosity will lead the way.

Remember, they are like a little sponge. They will take in everything around them and absorb it into their little developing brains.

In the beginning, your baby can’t hold a toy or sit or stand to play with an object, but she can watch mobiles and brightly colored crib ‘hangings’ that will help her focus her eyes. Finding things that will hold their attention will be tough, but you will notice items they like and items they don’t like very quickly.

Her vision is a bit fuzzy but she can see things that are about 8-12 inches from her face. So, in addition to mobiles, you can decorate the walls around her crib with animals, figures or brightly colored shapes with lots of contrast. She will love that! Coming up with ideas and getting others together to help is a fun time and will give you a chance to enjoy the new addition to your lives.

You can also play a music box or a CD or tape with lullabies or soothing music your child will love. There is some great developmental music your baby is sure to love.

Movies and videos work well too. We have found that because t.v. has commercials, our little guy loses interest and never regains. So we have found that baby Einstein videos and full length animated movies have kept him entertained so we can have a break or get other things accomplished.

As your baby gets a little older, he will love to look at his own reflection in the mirror. Many baby supply stores and toy stores sell safe, plastic mirrors that can be mounted on the crib or playpen.

Very soon, your child will start to turn over and even sit up. When your child is sitting in a walker, a swing or a high chair, you can give them brightly colored shapes to handle. Just be sure it is safe because they will be putting anything and everything in their mouth. It’s actually funny to watch, but if you aren’t careful, you could end up at the emergency room.

Some ideas that come to mind, include plastic ‘rods’ that fasten onto strollers or walkers and fasten across the front with circles, squares and other shapes attached to the rod. Rattlers and other items that make noise will be great teaching tools developing the all-important motor skills.

Books also allow your child many hours of practicing motor skills as they grow. They can flip pages, look at animal shapes, letters and numbers, and get involved. There are some great interactive-style books on the market today that are great teaching/learning tools. Our son loves them and plays with them for long periods of time.

When your baby is old enough to hold and snuggle a stuffed animal, there are great options for child safe bears and other animals that make noises, talk, sing and play music. This will be around the time you want to get them into a sleeping regimen. It is good to come up with a sleeping buddy they can count on. Trust us when we say we finally got a full nights sleep.

One word of caution is to be a safety conscious parent by making sure the toys you choose are age-appropriate and will not cause any potential harm to your little one. When you hear horror stories of parents saying oh I just turned my back for a moment or something along those lines, they can happen to you.

Also, buy toys that can be cleaned on occasion. It is easy for your little one to pick up illnesses from germs and such. Just remember they put everything in their mouth, so it is important to use proper cleaners and detergents (check with your doctor on which cleaners to use).

All in all this is a great overview of the importance of utilizing toys for your baby’s first year of development. There is a lot more to consider than you can imagine, but luckily parental instinct kicks in when you decide which toys are best and how to use them accordingly.

Happy Parenting!!
